Categories is just a feature aMule gives you so that you can classify and order your downloads more easily.
There is a main category which, by default, is the All category. This means that all files you have in your download queue will be shown in that category.
Apart from the main category you can create, delete and edit as many categories as you wish. To do so, right-click on the 'all' shown above the list of downloads
To each of this categories you can move files so that they appear there. For example, you could create a category called aMule and move there all the aMule source packages (such as aMule-2.0.3.tar.bz2 or aMule-20050827.tar.gz) you are currently downloading.
The main category cannot be deleted (since it would have no sense at all), but it's function can be switched and can be turned into a filter. The following functions are available:
- All: All files will be displayed in this main category.
- All others: All files which are not displayed in any other category will be displayed in this main category.
- Incomplete: All incompleted files will be displayed in this main category.
- Completed: All completed files will be displayed in this main category.
- Waiting: All files with waiting status will be displayed in this main category.
- Downloading: All currently downloading files will be displayed in this main category.
- Erroneous: All files with Erroneous status will be displayed in this main category.
- Paused: All paused files will be displayed in this main category.
- Stopped: All stopped files will be displayed in this main category.
- Active: All active files will be displayed in this main category.
- Video: All files which have a known video extension in it's filename will be displayed in this main category.
- Audio: All files which have a known audio extension in it's filename will be displayed in this main category.
- Archive: All files which have a known compresion archive extension in it's filename will be displayed in this main category.
- CD-Images: All files which have a known CD-image extension in it's filename will be displayed in this main category.
- Pictures: All files which have a known image extension in it's filename will be displayed in this main category.
- Text: All files which have a known text/document extension in it's filename will be displayed in this main category.
Except for the main category, all categories can be given some properties. This are:
- Title: A name to identify them or the files it contains. This property is mandatory.
- Comment: Any comment or description.
- Incoming dir: By default, the incoming directory set in aMule's preferences. If set, download listed in this category, when completed, will be moved to the given directory.
- Priority: Set the priority that newly added files will be given if they are assigned to this category. By default, Don't change.
- Colour: Select the colour in which files listed in the category will be shown. This makes it easier to identify files which have been already classified in some other category since they will normally appear in some other colour. By default, a random colour is picked up.
