A username is a string of characetrs which pretends to identify you.
In the ed2k network, usernames have no real identification use since your client will either be identified on the server through its ID or other clients through its SecureIdent keys.
In other words, in the ed2k network, usernames exist to make you more easily identifiable to other human users.
